Twitter conversations

It is a bit rude to have long conversations via @reply on Twitter. All of the followers that you and whoever you are conversing with have in common will see the entire string of messages. Sometimes it is appropriate to move to direct messages or email if you need to have a conversation that requires more than three to four tweets back and forth.

Running races

While it may seem like common practice at races, dropping your GU (or the like) packaging on the ground is unacceptable. The only place to drop garbage during races is at designated aid stations where the volunteers will sweep post-race. It is also polite to yell "thank you" to all of the volunteers picking up after you.

Children at parties

It is only appropriate to bring children to a party or event if they are explicitly invited. If you are unsure, it is polite to ask the host beforehand if kids are welcome.

Call waiting

Despite the available technology that allows you to put a conversation on hold while taking another phone call, it is rude to ask someone to wait while you answer the second call. Finish the first call and let the second caller go to voicemail.

Strangers' pets

It is polite to ask permission before touching a strangers' pet if you encounter them on the street or otherwise.
