Memorial Day

It is tradition to fly flags at half staff until noon on Memorial Day. It is also appropriate to bring flowers to gravesites and remember fallen family members and friends by looking through photos and talking about their lives.

At 3 p.m. local time Americans should pause their activities and take a moment of silence.

Baby strollers

While in general it is polite for gentlemen to hold doors for ladies, this rule does not apply to one pushing a baby stroller. It is appropriate for a person of any gender to hold the door for someone pushing a baby stroller.

Grocery carts

While some believe it's acceptable to leave grocery carts mid-parking lot, this is incorrect. Carts need to be returned to the storefront or to a cart receptacle in the lot.

Movie theaters

Despite common practice, it's inappropriate to leave garbage at your seat when a film ends. Take it with you to the trash can as you leave.

Wedding gifts

Despite common myth, you do not have an entire year after a wedding to send a gift. Gifts should arrive before the wedding date at the bride's parents' home unless otherwise specified.
